DESCRIPTION:Join us for a Fall Concert\, featuring guest conductor\, André Thomas.\nANDRÉ J. THOMAS is a Professor Emeritus of Music at Florida State University. He was visiting Professor of Choral Conducting at Yale University from 2020-2022. He also served as a faculty member at the University of Texas\, Austin. He is presently an Associate Artist with the London Symphony Orchestra.\nThomas is a distinguished composer/arranger with Hinshaw Music Company\, Mark Foster Music Company\, Fitzsimons Music Company\, Lawson Gould\, Earthsongs\, Choristers Guild\, and Heritage Music Company.\nFind out more about Dr. Thomas by visiting his website here. \nAll Hickory Choral Society Concerts are FREE and open to the public. SUMMARY:Fall Concert 2023 - "Love and Music Endure"
DESCRIPTION:“Love and Music are the last things to go.”  \nExperience the power of music as a meaningful response to dementia in the poignant but hopeful “Alzheimer’s Stories” by Robert Cohen. This 30-minute work will feature soloists\, a chamber orchestra\, and the 100-voice Hickory Choral Society under the leadership of Dr. Ryan Luhrs. The concert will also include music by Marques Garrett\, Ron Nelson\, Susan LaBarr\, Jacob Narverud and Mark Butler. \nThis concert is a part of the Art of Compassion – a dynamic community initiative that promotes connections between people and organizations\, to demonstrate Acts of Kindness. Through the power of the arts\, education and entertainment\, the Art of Compassion encourages support and love for others.
