Meet Nancy Toy – Secretary of the Board

I have always loved to sing since preschool chorus at my church growing up and had an accomplished pianist and percussionist mother who encouraged my sisters and me to sing and take music lessons from an early age. One of my earliest memories is going with her to a Messiah sing at our local college, Wittenberg University, in my hometown of Springfield, Ohio. Although I didn’t last too long on the piano (sadly), I loved wind instruments and still enjoy playing flute, piccolo, and recorder.

I joined HCS in 2004 and have loved being part of this musical family. Last year I was asked to serve for 6 months as a member at large on the board and now have been elected to the position of Secretary of the Board. In the past I have also served on the Boards of the Hickory Farmer’s Market and the Foundation YMCA and am currently an active member of the Hickory Sunshine Rotary Club.

My husband Carl Sauer and I have been married for 32 years and have 3 grown children: William 27, Trilby 25, and Sophie 20. We are also parents to a large dog named Cedric who likes to show up on HCS zoom practices from time to time.

I currently work as a full-time OB/GYN with Catawba Women’s Center here in Hickory and am glad that we have make up rehearsals as I am often on call and required to miss some. I am a member of First Presbyterian Church and love to sing in their choir as well. I am happily looking forward to a new year and hopefully being able to sing and perform in person again under our new conductor Dr. Ryan Luhrs! – Dr. Nancy Toy
